Does AI have cognitive abilities like a human?
Does AI have cognitive abilities like a human?
Cognitive abilities refer to the diversity of cognitive functions like memory, attention, reasoning, linguistic ability, creativity, perceptivity, creative and critical thinking, socializing, meta-cognition (thinking about thinking), & self-realization, assisting to realize the entire world and behavioral patterns (Happy Neuron Pro, 2026).
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a broader field of computer science, integrating Machine Learning (ML) (subset of AI) and deep learning (subset of ML) and artificial neural networks (ANN) (main model of DL), enriching human learning, understanding, creativity, problem-solving, and decision-making (Stryker & Kavlakoglu, 2024).
If AI had cognitive abilities like a human, no AI director software like Originality.ai, GPTZero, ZeroGPT, Scribbr, QuillBot, Grammarly, and JustDone AI would have used the words "possibility" or "likely" in the case of any piece of writing.
Some conducted studies led by some prominent universities like Harvard University, Princeton University, and so on, have shown that error rates of AI detector software are between 20% and 60%.
So, the above-mentioned information questions the artificial neural network's superiority over the human neural network (ANN).
Stryker & Kavlakoglu (2024) claim that strong AI is proportionate to human intelligence, even that it can surpass human intelligence.
No practical application in the technological field has been conducted by Strong AI (Artificial General Intelligence) coined by Stryker & Kavlakoglu. 🙂 The theoretical framework of AGI has not been implemented into real applications, which is just a probability and possibility, not yet practical. 🙂
In creative thinking, the human brain is faster than AI. For example, creating socio-political-based subtle metaphorical pattern recognition satire is possible for the human brain, not weak AI, coined by Stryker & Kavlakoglu.
Such as,
"Why are ducks so dangerous? Chasing after them signals indigenous realistic taste!"
It is a satirical metaphorical pattern recognition, for which ChatGPT shows its opinion:
"I think the line playfully warns that even things that seem harmless, like ducks, can surprise you if you pursue them recklessly. At the same time, it hints that taking such risks shows a bold, instinctive, and authentic way of engaging with the world."
So, it has been unable to capture the exact political metaphorical meaning intended by someone. High-level creativity will always come from a human brain, not AI, which is the distinct limitation of weak AI, coined by Stryker & Kavlakoglu.
A human is an inventor; in contrast, AI acts as an interpreter, polisher, detector, regenerator.
Human cognitive abilities are influenced by the environment, and natural sensory motors connect to the real world (Happy Neuron Pro, 2026), which is lacking in the case of AI.
A closure keeping a question: how can AI exceed a human?
(Development of the argumentative essay methodology:
Based on the two articles and the second article's authors' some claims, the foundation of the essay has been developed, additionally emphasising the question: Does AI have cognitive abilities like a human?)
