Family Behavior and Dynamics: Preliminary Qualitative Study through Observations and Longitudinal Survey

Introduction :

The study aims to observe familial behavioural patterns and understand how emotion, caution, and role management interact in family dynamics and affect mental health.

Methodology of Data Collection: The entire study's data collection has been conducted using the following two methodologies: a longitudinal study and long-term observation. These two methodologies help collect and develop the content of the essay. Additionally, Copilot and ChatGPT have been used for creating infographics and layouts.

Methodology :

Data collection :

Long- term observation

Longitudinal study

Sampling Strategy :

Participants : Two participants (From whom data were collected)

Long-term observation (data were collected through long- term observation)

Discussion

After marriage, the wife maintains personal boundaries. She has limited emotional closeness with extended family and preserves her private space, including personal time and independence. She participates in social interactions selectively. Here, she applies her instrumental intelligence in managing these interactions.

Her behavior varies depending on the family member and their position. With parents or senior family members, she adjusts her level of engagement and communication. Interaction patterns appear influenced by internal family roles and authority structures. Here she applies her strategic intelligence in managing family members.

The wife shows emotional involvement when required by the situation and reduces engagement once the immediate context passes. This pattern allows her to participate in family interactions without extensive emotional exposure. Here she applies her strategic intelligence in retaining her image.

Tension is observed in discussions about education, future plans, or overseas opportunities. Responses in these contexts are minimal or reserved rather than openly negative. This is understood in observing her facial micro-expression.

Sometimes family members do what is expected of them. Their face or gestures do not always match what they say. They usually try to stay calm and not argue. The husband pays attention to his wife and often listens to her first in family matters.

He prioritizes the marital relationship and monitors language, tone, and behavior during family interactions in her presence. These actions support communication management and relationship stability. There is evidence of concern regarding potential threats to the marital relationship. This results in clearly defined boundaries and careful responses toward other family members.

Communication in the family is sometimes indirect. Messages are passed through intermediaries, and decision-making responsibilities shift depending on circumstances. These practices reduce direct confrontation.

Overall, family members appear to act to protect their comfort, emotional safety, and position. Relationships are influenced by both emotional connections and cautious, adaptive behavior. Prolonged exposure to indirect tension or restrained communication may affect confidence, emotional regulation, and daily functioning. This observation is presented as a neutral account. It highlights how emotion, caution, and role management interact in family dynamics, shaping relationships in multiple ways.

No papers have been reviewed to conduct a literature review, and no relevant theory has been applied, as it is a preliminary draft.

Ethical Issues: Here, one family has been observed. To ensure the personal safety of the case persons, they are described in objective tones. In particular, both the two participants are the case studies of this qualitative observational study. They are the main contributors to developing the study. The study examines how their behavioral patterns can affect another family member, potentially leading to detrimental effects on mental health.
