Ludicrous Democracy

Obama was the first Black president in the history of the U.S.A. after the abolition of slavery. At the time of taking office, many predicted that Barack Hussein Obama would bring positive possibilities for the world. But, no doubt, those expectations seemed scarcely fulfilled. During his time, the economic situation was bitter. The process of economic growth remained unstable throughout his tenure. Unemployment reached its highest peak. Inequality grew between the upper and lower classes, but no effective initiative was taken. His contribution in the health sector, however, was satisfactory. Some of his decisions created international crises, and eventually, Americans had to face a certain amount of hardship. Yet, he was able to minimize the suffering of American soldiers.

Before his presidency, the Bush administration’s excessive military expenses for wars in the Middle East had caused economic strain. Through his friendliness and diplomacy, Obama helped reduce the long-standing antagonism between Cuba and Venezuela. Another of his achievements was the elimination of Al-Qaeda’s mastermind, who was responsible for the September 11th attack on the Twin Towers. However, his diplomacy regarding militancy was never entirely successful. Obama gained popularity in the immigration sector, while Donald Trump was thoroughly controversial in this regard.

A burning issue for the U.S.A. was Iran. Obama pursued a softer approach toward Iran’s uranium program; on the other hand, during Trump’s tenure, sanctions against Iran were extended for longer periods. On this issue, Trump’s adamant decisions went against other permanent members of the UN, particularly in the use of veto power. Obama’s advocacy for the climate agreement was praiseworthy, whereas Trump opposed it. Trump received strong support from American radicals because his main vision aligned with their sentiments. One side of Americans is influenced by radical ideas, while the other side is opposed to them.

Be that as it may, Trump’s every attitude and initiative during his four years in office proved that he was dedicated to American radical interests. He never wanted to give away privileges and advantages that he considered belonging to the “real” Americans, which is why he still retains a large base of radical supporters. Trump and his agitated followers created a disgraceful chapter in U.S. history by attacking Capitol Hill, which questioned the democratic pride of the nation. Its consequences astonished people around the world.

At the beginning of his presidency, Trump was often considered a laughingstock because of his behavior and actions. Finally, by delaying the transfer of power to Joe Biden, the newly elected president of the U.S.A., Trump turned himself into a scandalous former president of America.

However, the path for the current President Biden will not be easy. He faces major challenges, especially regarding Iran, post-Covid-19 recovery in the economic sector, and maintaining the U.S.A.’s position as the leading global superpower. Already, China is emerging as a strong opponent of the U.S.A. because of its monopolistic power in the world market and its ongoing investment in developing Asian countries, which is a serious concern for the U.S.A.

Control of militancy had been neglected during Obama’s tenure, and Biden, who was Vice President at that time, also shares responsibility. Be that as it may, time will tell whether Biden will repeat the mistakes of the past or lead differently. May democracy remain strong.
