Paradise lost
Paradise Lost
— DEEN SAYEEDIN (13.02.21)
I was a devil —
God’s own freakish soul.
Being cursed,
I lost paradise.
My stubbornness went on and on;
God’s curse was upon me incessantly.
My naughtiness flowed on and on
Among the love-birds of paradise.
Sometimes, in the skin of an ant,
Sometimes, as a silent spider,
Sometimes, as the little black mamba —
My mischief crept on and on.
The love-birds cried,
Their agonies grew;
And the more His ruthless curse expanded,
The more my wild perversity burned.
Then — vanishing — my daring heart
Opened its eyes anew;
And light, pouring in,
Flooded my vision.
I heard the weeping
Of the female love-birds.
I trembled, bewildered,
And called my Lord aloud —
No answer came.
Then — in a breath —
I found myself again in paradise,
Resting beside my godly mother.
